Yes, as they say, “out of the mouths of babes” come what are quite often some of the wisest words uttered, and words which often belie the age and experience of those delivering them.

However, the messenger should not prejudice the message, but I fear that all too often it does.

So it is against this backdrop that I would like to highlight an extraordinary achievement, by a young Australian girl who I am sure you have read about in the news this week.

Jessica Watson, aged 16 has been in the news for being the youngest person to sail solo around the world. Now ignoring the fact that the appropriate authorities are currently refusing to officially recognise it, the fact that she is the youngest is kind of irrelevant. For me, the most poignant detail in this story was her comments in response to being lauded by the Australian Prime Minister.

Some may say that she was just being modest, but the truth is that this young woman has an insight on life that many will never realise. Many will never achieve what they dream about because they lack this insight and belief system. This is all about mindset, and it’s so refreshing to hear words so profound from someone so young. These are not just words either; these are words that come on the back of achievement as the result of massive action:

“I don’t consider myself a hero. I’m an ordinary girl who believed in her dream.
“You don’t have to be someone special or anything special to achieve something amazing.
“You’ve just got to have a dream, believe in it and work hard.”
