If you haven’t read my first two articles on starting your own home based business, then now might be a good time to find them and have a read through.

We’ve already covered the affects on your personal life and your finances. Certainly there are a number of areas that need to be carefully considered before jumping straight in to building your own business.

Probably one of the most important areas has is your motivation and whether you have enough of it to see the job through to the end, and all too often people will give up on something just when they’re so close to beginning to see some results.

This almost always comes down to what is driving a person towards their goals.

There has to be a lot of motivation and drive put in to building any business. In fact, most of the effort that you put in will be in setting up your business. The old 80/20 rule will definitely come into play here, where around 80% of your effort will have to go into setting up your business and getting it going before you’re able to start getting into a routine that requires less effort, but keeps the momentum going.

It’s kind of like a car accelerating: it will use a lot of fuel to get up to speed, but once there, far less fuel is used to maintain that speed. If your car tells you how many miles-per-gallon you’re using, just watch that change as you accelerate compared to when you’re up to cruising speed on the motorway or highway.

The same is true in business, and it can seem that you’re putting in that 80% effort, for only a 20% gain (not the kind of ratio that most people will enjoy). However, that 20% will form the foundation of your business going forward upon which the remaining 80% will require far less effort.

So, you get the picture? Building your business is going to be hard work. If you’re going to remain committed to this, you’re going to have to remain motivated.

Your level of motivation will be determined by how focused you are on your goals, and how clear your goals are. I have said this many times before in many other articles, but this will also be determined by your mindset. Your mindset will determine your staying power and your ability to drive through the inevitable set-backs and difficulties you will come across.

How will you view frustration? Will you focus on it, or just drive through knowing that you will achieve your goals ultimately?

Self improvement is a must here. Working on your mindset cannot be underestimated when striving for success. In fact, I would go as far to say that have the right entrepreneurial mindset will be the most important factor in your success. Personally, I read, and re-read ‘Think & Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill, and apply the 13 principles taught.

I hope that I have at the very least given you some food for thought, and some areas to consider when looking at setting up your own home based business. Running your own home based business is one of the best ways to take control of your financial future, and avoid the uncertainty and insecurity of the job market.
